We also had to tear-out the old backsplash... and boy, what a mess.

The contractor finally finished the floor tiles... although sealing and fixing up the walls were not fun.

As you can see, we only fixed up the drywall where wall would be exposed... everything else will (hopefully) get properly fixed and covered with the cabinets and backsplash...

Then came painting! 

Yes, we painted.  It's an eggshell white (forgot the name of the color - dove something). You can't tell by the picture, but it's less bright-white than what it used to be.

They started installing the cabinets, but I'll leave those pics for the big reveal :)
